It's no secret that the best way to really get into something is to get away from everything. Okay - maybe the iPhone and MacBook Pro still make the trip, but at least the scenery and the people need to change to spur some fresh thoughts.
My wife and I make it a habit to explore new places anytime our calendar freakishly opens up for a long weekend. Our most recent trip had us headed to Hudson Valley, New York - an increasingly popular destination for interior designers from the big city to swoop in and nab antiques that just became cool again.
With some astute web surfing, we were able to lock in a little stay at what amounted to a test lab for an area architect to try out some new design concepts in the real world. After weeks spent staring at a hard drive full of marketing plans and website wire frames - it was completely refreshing to see another professional testing his craft...albeit in a much more tangible, yet highly rewarding way.
